Agnes of God - Scene Study
During my previous term at Identity School of Acting, we worked on the play Agnes of God by John Peilmeier. The play tells the story of a movie nun who gives birth and insists that the child was the result of a virgin conception. After the child is found dead in a waste paper basket, a psychiatrist is assigned by the court to investigate further into Agnes’ mental state. This material was incredibly challenging, and stretched me as an artist to go to places I’ve never gone before. Playing Agnes, I had to figure out her physicality, explore borderline personality disorder and the effects of child abuse, and dive deeper into the Catholic religion. I believe I came out on the other side of this a much stronger actor, and more certain about what I need in my own process in order to do great work. Here are some stills from class of my amazing scene partner, Francis Edemobi, and I working as Agnes and Dr. Livingstone.
